At StreetWise Publishing Co. - we believe that fiction is the mirror of reality. Our aim is to crystallize, promote, and present the artistic merit and social relevance to be found in our stories, poetry, and prose. The only works ever taken to press will be those consistent with our stated goals. To be clear, StreetWise Publishing will publish only those works that meet high standards. In order to grow and become a force in the publishing industry, this is a must. Everything is real, here.
A few months ago, I caught Spike Lee promoting his biography on the Kathy Hughes Show. He talked about an index (in his book) where he lists all the movie stars who got their first jobs working for his company. An impressive list of black stars. Spike was quick to point out that even though he set out to hire as many young African-American artist as possible, none were given a pass simply because of color.
It’s all about creative talent. Period.
Furthermore, we hold strongly to the belief that the total range of readers can come to know and appreciate our works. The simply truth is that our genre of writing has been misjudged by most (critics), and understood by few.
Medical science has an often used maxim that declares: When you hear hoof beats, one is not inclined to think a Zebra is coming. In this context, the meaning is clear. Initial diagnosis/analysis of a medical condition tends to be based on the symptoms reported.
Our position is that whatever crime, brutality, lack of so-called moral restraint, senseless this or that, reported in our stories needs to be examined as a symptom of the world society at large. We issue a challenge to all (critics) that they focus on the cause rather than the effects demonstrated in the different behavior (in our stories).
At StreetWise we will supply a totally vivid and realistic portrait of the symptoms. We’ll tell you exactly where it hurts!
